On August 14, 2023, the Department of Disease Control’s Director-General, Dr. Tharet Krasanairawiwong, announced that he had learned of a smallpox patient’s death. The dead was identified as a 34-year-old man who had been experiencing fever, headaches, itching, and blisters and rash on different parts of his body since July 3, 2023. On July 11, 2023, he was admitted to a private hospital in the province of Chonburi. Doctors believed it was smallpox. Consequently, samples were sent for analysis in order to verify the discovery of the smallpox virus’ genetic material. HIV and syphilis infections were also found at the same period.

  2. Later on August 9, 2023, the patient had symptoms of fatigue and difficulty breathing, so relatives brought the patient for treatment at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute. It was discovered that there was a rash from monkeypox all over the body. and there was extensive tissue death in the nose and throat. There were complications of infection in the arms and legs. have pneumonia and symptoms of encephalitis severe immunodeficiency and died on the night of August 11, 2023
